Aspects of the living environment can affect health and wellbeing of children and adolescents. Whereas most previous studies assessed the more distant residential urban environment, less is known on possible effects of the close environment. The present study investigated associations of the proportion of streets and green spaces in the immediate urban living environment (50, 100 and 400 m around the home) with media use, outdoor activity, overweight/obesity and emotional problems in two samples of younger (age 3-10, n = 395) and older children (age 10-19, n = 405). Independently of socioeconomic parameters, a higher proportion of streets was associated with overweight/obesity (in younger and older children), higher media use (in younger children), less outdoor activity and more emotional problems (in older children). Older children’s outdoor activity in winter increased with increasing proportions of green spaces. The observations suggest that the immediate urban living environment is a factor that can affect leisure behavior and health in children. The authors wish to make the following corrections to this paper […].The quality of urban soil is closely related to the safety of public places and the guarantee of food quality. This study investigated the level, distribution, source, and carcinogenic risk of 16 U.S. EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) priority polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in urban, agricultural, and montane soil in Taiyuan. The ∑16PAHs level varied from 104.78 to 6594.63 ng g-1 with a mean of 922.93 ng g-1, and 47.73% of the soil samples were severely contaminated, with a concentration higher than 600 ng g-1. PAHs with higher molecular weight (≥4 rings) were dominant in PAHs profiles accounting for 80.92%. MLN8054 In the spatial distribution of PAHs, hotspots of ∑16 PAHs were observed near the industries, indicating pollutants emitted by the industries directly affect the surrounding soil quality. The sources identified by positive matrix factorization (PMF) indicated coal combustion (40.77%), vehicle exhausts (32.94%), biomass combustion (14.89%), and coking source (11.40%). Coal-related sources (coal and coking sources) were the major contributors (52.17%) to PAHs and carcinogenic risk (46.48%) assessed by BaP toxic equivalent concentration in total soils. Therefore, the extensive usage of coal was the leading factor for PAH pollution and health risk in Taiyuan soil. The effect of scintillator particle size on high-resolution X-ray imaging was studied using zinc tungstate (ZnWO4) particles. The ZnWO4 particles were fabricated through a solid-state reaction between zinc oxide and tungsten oxide at various temperatures, producing particles with average sizes of 176.4 nm, 626.7 nm, and 2.127 μm; the zinc oxide and tungsten oxide were created using anodization. The spatial resolutions of high-resolution X-ray images, obtained from utilizing the fabricated particles, were determined particles with the average size of 176.4 nm produced the highest spatial resolution. The results demonstrate that high spatial resolution can be obtained from ZnWO4 nanoparticle scintillators that minimize optical diffusion by having a particle size that is smaller than the emission wavelength. In recent years there has been a lot of talk about toothpastes with a particular chemical compound stannous fluoride (SnF2). Its presence is currently still highly controversial, as the latter could have negative health effects. The different companies that produce toothpastes express its dosage in ppm. The purpose of this systematic literature review is to analyze all randomized clinical trials in the literature over the last 10 years and to draw clear results on the function of stannous fluoride, for this purpose the authors performed a Mann-Whitney U Test.

The first analysis of the literature produced a number greater than 800 results, subsequently applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and following a manual analysis of the results, 26 manuscripts have been obtained.

From the results analyzed in this review, it could be shown that stannous fluoride does not present important contraindications, if not those commonly reported for fluorine. A meta-analysis on enamel loss has been conducted, it shows that SnF

products provide better results with a

    < 0.05 value.

This compound could have significant effects in favor of erosion and recalcification of the enamel, on the biofilm formation, gingival inflammation, and in addition, it could be an important aid in the removal of tooth stains and halitosis.

In the present study, we aimed to analyze the clinical value of lincRNA-p21 in 177 resected stage I-III colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. Tumor and normal paired tissue and plasma samples from tumor-draining mesenteric veins and paired peripheral veins were analyzed. LincRNA-p21 expression was determined by RTqPCR and correlated with disease-free (DFS) and overall survival (OS). LincRNA-p21 was downregulated in tumor versus normal tissue (p = 0.0012). CRC patients with high lincRNA-p21 expression had shorter DFS (p = 0.0372) and shorter OS (p = 0.0465). Of note, the major prognostic impact was observed in the subset of rectal cancer patients where patients with high lincRNA-p21 levels had worse DFS (p = 0.0226) and OS (p = 0.0457). Interestingly, rectal cancer patients with high lincRNA-p21 benefited from post-operative chemoradiotherapy, as indicated by a longer OS in the group of high lincRNA-p21 patients receiving post-operative chemoradiotherapy (p = 0.04). Finally, patients with high lincRNA-p21 levels in mesenteric vein (MV) had shorter OS (p = 0.0329). LincRNA-p21 is a marker of advanced disease and worse outcome in CRC. Moreover, rectal cancer patients with high lincRNA-p21 levels could benefit from post-operative chemoradiotherapy, and plasmatic-lincRNA-p21 is a promising liquid biopsy biomarker.
