To investigate the role stressors, and how coping strategies cultivated nurse managers’ resilience in rural workplaces.
A stressful workplace can impair the mental and physical health of nurse managers leading to poor performance. Building and sustaining manager resilience in complex and stressful practice environments is necessary to attract and maintain competent and skilled managers.
In this qualitative exploratory inquiry, a purposive sampling method was used to recruit 16 nurse managers in rural western Canada.
Coping strategies fostered manager’s resilience that made their work meaningful, and included putting out fires, psychologically reframing a situation, serving others and receiving support.
Managers brought expertise, knowledge and skill to make their work meaningful and central to ongoing health service delivery in these rural communities. Nurse manager resilience can be strengthened by using evidence-based strategies in an increasingly complex health care environment.
Managers need to be supported and encouraged to develop awareness of their own protective factors as they cope with challenging situations. Building resilience through formal education, social support and meaningful recognition is an important focus for nurse leaders in establishing a healthy work environment and maintaining a stable nursing workforce.

While the copper complexes form ligand-bridged dimers, the zinc compounds are monomeric. Due to different steric demand of the ligand the arrangement of the ligands within the dimeric complexes varies. Similar to the structurally related iminophosphonamide complexes of alkali metals and calcium, the steady-state and time-resolved photoluminescence (PL) of four of the seven compounds studied here as solids in a temperature range of 5-295 K can be described within the scheme of thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF). Accordingly, they exhibit bright blue-green phosphorescence at low temperatures ( less then 100 K), which turns into delayed fluorescence by increasing the temperature. However, unusually, the fluorescence is practically absent in two copper complexes which otherwise still conform to the TADF scheme. In these cases, the excited singlet states decay essentially non-radiatively and their thermal population from the corresponding low-lying triplet states efficiently quenches PL (phosphorescence). Three other copper and zinc complexes only exhibit prompt fluorescence, evidencing a wide variation of photophysical properties in this class of compounds. The excited states of the copper complex with especially pronounced phosphorescence quenching were also investigated by low-temperature time-resolved infrared spectroscopy and quantum chemical calculations. This is the first report of constrictive pericarditis (CP) in a 16-year-old boy with H syndrome with pericardial involvement predominantly over the right ventricle with favorable response to anti-inflammatory treatment. H syndrome, first reported in 2008, is a new auto-inflammatory syndrome with multiorgan involvement due to mutation in the SLC29A3 gene. We described the echocardiographic characteristics of asymmetric pericardial involvement and presented the cardiac computed tomography angiographic and magnetic resonance imaging findings. We reviewed the echocardiographic signs of CP, introduced tricuspid E/A respiratory alternans as a novel echocardiographic sign of right ventricular dominant CP, and explained the underlying mechanism.
Emotional eating has been largely demonstrated in humans and laboratory rodents, but a recent survey conducted by the authors revealed that dog owners have also detected this phenomenon in their pets. However, due to the lack of diagnostic tools, veterinarians and researchers might encounter serious difficulties in detecting emotional eating in clinical settings. The present study aimed to explore different variables associated with owner perceived-emotional eating in companion dogs with the ultimate goal of designing a tool that could facilitate its detection.
The mentioned survey included information on feeding habits, eating behaviour, temperament and emotional state of the dogs, as well as a specific question for assessing the owners’ perception on emotional eating. From these data (n=1137), a stochastic model based on binary logistic regression was used to design a regression model.
The final model (r
=0.179, p<0.001) included a constant and nine variables and, of these, five did act as risk factors whereas the rest were considered as protective factors, in line with a congruent clinical perception. These variables could make up an easy-to-respond nine-item checklist to be answered by dog owners that could help veterinarians identify those companion dogs susceptible to emotional eating.

This is a retrospective review of 28 adult lung transplant patients who were prescribed apixaban for stroke prevention in atrial arrhythmias or treatment of VTE between October 15, 2015 and December 31, 2018. The primary outcome was a composite of efficacy and safety measured by recurrence or breakthrough of stroke or thromboembolism and bleeding events. Seven patients were treated for atrial arrhythmias and 21 treated for VTE. Avibactam free acid purchase Fifteen patients received CYP3A4 or P-gp inhibitors at initiation of anticoagulation, and 4 of these patients received strong CYP3A4 inhibitors. During the follow-up period, one breakthrough DVT and one clinically relevant non-major bleed were observed. These data suggest that apixaban may be safe to use for lung transplant patients, and larger studies are warranted to assess long-term outcomes as well as safety and efficacy of alternative DOACs.
