Based on these relationships, we proposed a conceptual framework linking stoichiometric decomposition and nutrient mining hypotheses, in which the former dominates in low-nutrient availability soils and the latter dominates in high-nutrient availability soils. This conceptual framework can help to explain the contrasting effects of nutrient addition on priming. Collectively, our findings highlight the roles of SOC content and soil pH in regulating priming intensity, and the role of initial soil nutrient availability in regulating the effects of nutrient addition on priming.Percutaneous reverse Potts shunt improves right ventricular function in patients with suprasystemic idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension. There are no data regarding the anesthesia in this high-risk procedure. We report our experience of the anesthetic management for the creation of percutaneous reverse Potts shunt in children with suprasystemic idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension. This study included 10 patients presenting with symptomatic idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension despite undergoing medical treatment. All patients underwent gradual induction of anesthesia to maintain hemodynamic stability (etomidate, n = 8; ketamine, n = 4). Four patients needed extracorporeal life support 2 were rescued after cardiac arrest and 2 had elective extracorporeal life support due to preprocedural dysfunctional right ventricle and/or small left ventricle volumes with reduced cardiac output. All patients were admitted to the pediatric cardiac intensive care unit (4 [2-5] days). All patients with extracorporeal life support died. None of the six survivors needed pulmonary transplantation. Both ketamine and etomidate support hemodynamics. High-dose opioid technique has the advantage of blunting noxious stimuli and subsequent increase in pulmonary vascular resistance. We recommend using multimodal monitoring with transesophageal echocardiography. The 100% mortality of extracorporeal life support patients, probably too sick to undergo such procedure, may question its usefulness. Further studies should identify suitable candidates for percutaneous reverse Potts shunt creation.
This study sought to understand the impact of out-of-pocket healthcare expenditure (OOPHE) on Aboriginal families of children with acute burns injury.
Families participating in a larger Australia-wide study on burns injuries in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children were approached to participate. Decolonising methodology and yarning were employed with participants to scope OOPHE for burns care. Thematic analyses were used with transcripts and data organised using qualitative analysis software (NVivo, Version 12).
Six families agreed to participate. Four yarning sessions were undertaken across South Australia, New South Wales and Queensland. The range of OOPHE identified included costs (transport, pain medication, bandages), loss (employment capacity, social and community) and support (family, service support). The need to cover OOPHE significantly impacted on participants, from restricting social interactions to paying household bills. Close family connections and networks were protective in alleviating financial burden.

Clinical studies suggest that different paclitaxel formulations influence the severity and time course of paclitaxel-induced peripheral neuropathy. We compared two paclitaxel formulations, nanoparticle albumin-bound paclitaxel (nab-paclitaxel) and Cremophor EL paclitaxel (CreEL-paclitaxel), for their toxicity, distribution, and clearance in the peripheral nervous system. Neuronal F11 cells were used to detect changes in morphology, cell nuclei size, and cell viability after nab- or CreEL-paclitaxel treatment via MTT Assay and immunohistochemistry. C57BL/6 mice were treated with 50 mg/kg of nab-paclitaxel or CreEL-paclitaxel. The Tb increased with AAP, while the Tc decreased and the To remained constant at all AAP. Below To , the median base water potentials (ψb (50)) were -1.07, -0.73, -0.48 and -0.39 MPa for the AAP levels of 0, 24, 36 and 48 h, respectively. These values were more negative when germination occurred in salt solutions (the base NaCl concentrations converted to ψ were -1.25, -0.81, -0.51 and -0.41 MPa, respectively), due to uptake of salt ions.
