    The role of pigs in the maintenance of bovine tuberculosis caused by Mycobacterium bovis has been demonstrated in many settings; however, the current control programs usually do not state any intra-vitam diagnostic procedure in this species, as for the cattle. Carcass inspection has shown to be insufficient to detect infection in swine; thus, the assessment of intradermal tuberculin test and interferon-gamma release assay (IGRA) in this species is mandatory. The current study compares the performances of the single intradermal comparative cervical tuberculin (SICCT) test and IGRA. A total of 628 Nebrodi Black pigs raised in free-roaming farms were subjected to the two tests simultaneously. Besides, 124 animals underwent postmortem examination for the detection of tuberculous lesions and isolation of mycobacteria from target organs. The two tests showed a concordance of 94.42% with a Cohen’s k coefficient of 0.786 and McNemar chi-square of 4.83 (P = 0.03). Slightly lower levels of concordance (90.32%) between SICCT and IGRA were obtained in the group of 124 animals, with a Cohen’s k = 0.797 and McNemar chi-squared value of 0.69 with a non-significant P = 0.41. Moreover, the results showed how IGRA tends to result positive in higher rates, mostly when non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) were isolated, suggesting a possible impairment of specificity in the event of coinfections in the swine. In conclusion, the results obtained support the possibility of the strategic use of IGRA or SICCT in combination or alternatively one to the other, particularly IGRA which showed lower specificity but has evident advantages over SICCT.Bovine tuberculosis (BTB) is a zoonotic bacterial infection caused by Mycobacterium bovis and is characterized by the development of granulomatous lesions in the lymph nodes, lungs and other tissues. It poses serious public health impacts and food security challenges to the agricultural sector in terms of dairy and meat productions. In Ethiopia, BTB has been considered as a priority disease because of its high prevalence in urban and peri-urban dairy farms. However, there has not been any national control program in the country. Thus, in order to initiate BTB control program in the country, information on control options is needed to tailor the best option for the Ethiopian situation. The objective of this study was to identify, evaluate and rank various BTB control options in Ethiopia using a multi-criteria decision analysis based on preference ranking organization method for enrichment evaluations (PROMETHEE) approach while accounting for the stakeholders’ preferences. Control options were evaluated under tand slaughter with full compensation by government were the two most preferred control options under scenarios 1 and 2, respectively. National level discussions were strongly recommended for further concretization and implementation of these control measures.Laminitis in cattle is an important underlying cause of lameness, which leads to a significant reduction in economic and animal welfare. Nevertheless, the disordered pathological processes of laminitis remain unclear. Several proteinases are probably involved in the disorder of basement membrane (BM) metabolism in laminitis, for instance, matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), neutrophil elastase (NE), and myeloperoxidase (MPO). This study aimed to investigate the change in proteolytic profile in circulating and lamellar tissues using an oligofructose (OF) overload-induced laminitis model in heifers. Twelve clinically healthy and nonlame Chinese Holstein heifers were recruited and randomly divided into two groups OF-induced and control (CON). The OF-induced heifers group (n = 6) was administered 17 g/kg of body weight (BW) of OF dissolved in 2 L/100 kg of BW of tap water via the oral-rumen tube. The CON group (n = 6) was given an equal volume of tap water. An experiment was conducted with a 2 × 2 × 2 factorial arrangement with 3 factors (1) provision of rearing milk or electrolytes before transport, (2) transport duration (6 or 18 h), and (3) type of vehicle (open truck or conditioned truck). The study included male Holstein-Friesian and cross-bred calves (N = 368; 18 ± 4 days; 45.3 ± 3.3 kg). Data on health status of calves were collected at the collection center and at the veal farm until week 27 post-transport. Behavior of calves was recorded during transport and at the veal farm until week 13 post-transport. Use of herd and individual medical treatments was recorded at the veal farm. The prevalence of loose or liquid manure at the veal farm from day 1 until week 3 post-transport was lower in electrolyte-fed calves transported in the conditioned truck compared to electrolytes-fed calves transported in the open truck or milk-fed calves transported in both the conditioned and open truck (Δ = 11% on average; P = 0.
