Both melatonin and agomelatine penetrate the posterior segment of the eye. In the MCE model, IOP elevation was drastically reduced by melatonin/agomelatine with higher efficacy than that of timolol or brimonidine. Concomitantly, gliosis-related inflammation and the Bax-associated apoptosis were partially prevented, thus leading to RGC survival and recovered retinal dysfunction. We suggest that topical melatoninergic compounds might be beneficial for ocular health. In the case of fire, explosive spalling often occurs in cementitious composites due to dense microstructure and high pore-pressure. Polymer fibers were proved to be effective in mitigating such behavior. However, deterioration of these fiber-reinforced cementitious composites inevitably occurs, which is vital for the prediction of structural performance and prevention of catastrophic disaster. This paper concentrates on the behavior and mechanism of the deterioration of polyvinyl alcohol fiber-reinforced engineered cementitious composite (PVA-ECC) after exposure to elevated temperatures. Surface change, cracking, and spalling behavior of the cubic specimens were observed at room temperature, and after exposure to 200 °C, 400 °C, 600 °C, 800 °C, and 1200 °C. Losses in specimen weight and compressive strength were evaluated. Selleckchem PF-9366 Test results indicated that explosive spalling behavior was effectively prevented with 2.0 vol% polyvinyl alcohol fiber although the strength monotonically decreased with heating temperature. X-ray diffraction curves showed that the calcium hydroxide initially decomposed in the range of 400-600 °C, and finished beyond 600 °C, while calcium silicate hydrate began at around 400 °C and completely decomposed at approximately 800 °C. Micrographs implied a reduction in fiber diameter at 200 °C, exhibiting apparent needle-like channels beyond 400 °C. When the temperature was increased to 600 °C and above, the dents were gradually filled with newly produced substance due to the synergistic effect of thermal expansion, volume expansion of chemical reactions, and pore structure coarsening.Absorbable magnesium stents have become alternatives for treating restenosis owing to their better mechanical properties than those of bioabsorbable polymer stents. However, without modification, magnesium alloys cannot provide the proper degradation rate required to match the vascular reform speed. Gallic acid is a phenolic acid with attractive biological functions, including anti-inflammation, promotion of endothelial cell proliferation, and inhibition of smooth muscle cell growth. Thus, in the present work, a small-molecule eluting coating is designed using a sandwich-like configuration with a gallic acid layer enclosed between poly (d,l-lactide-co-glycolide) layers. This coating was deposited on ZK60 substrate, a magnesium alloy that is used to fabricate bioresorbable coronary artery stents. Electrochemical analysis showed that the corrosion rate of the specimen was ~2000 times lower than that of the bare counterpart. The released gallic acid molecules from sandwich coating inhibit oxidation by capturing free radicals, selectively promote the proliferation of endothelial cells, and inhibit smooth muscle cell growth. In a cell migration assay, sandwich coating delayed wound closure in smooth muscle cells. The sandwich coating not only improved the corrosion resistance but also promoted endothelialization, and it thus has great potential for the development of functional vascular stents that prevent late-stent restenosis.Laser-Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF) of metallic parts is a highly multivariate process. An understanding of powder feedstock properties is critical to ensure part quality. In this paper, a detailed examination of two commercial stainless steel 316L powders produced using the gas atomization process is presented. In particular, the effects of the powder properties (particle size and shape) on the powder rheology were examined. The results presented suggest that the powder properties strongly influence the powder rheology and are important factors in the selection of suitable powder for use in an additive manufacturing (AM) process. Both of the powders exhibited a strong correlation between the particle size and shape parameters and the powder rheology. Optical microscope images of melt pools of parts printed using the powders in an L-PBF machine are presented, which demonstrated further the significance of the powder morphology parameters on resulting part microstructures.
The aim of the study was to compare the oral-health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) between cancer survivors with rapid orthodontic treatment (TX) (up to 12 months) and standard TX (orthodontic treatment time longer than 16 months).
There were 76 cancer survivors (48 women and 28 men) allocated into groups with rapid (36 people) or standard (40 people) duration of TX. OHRQoL was assessed on the basis of Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14) values, measured before TX, 2 weeks and 3 months after the onset of TX, and after the end of TX. A repeated ANOVA test was used to check the statistical significance between the scores.
There were no significant differences regarding the OHIP-14 values between the examined groups at all stages of the examination. Both groups presented significant (
< 0.001) improvement of the values of OHRQoL at the end of TX comparing to the values achieved before the onset of TX.
Duration of orthodontic treatment by itself had no impact on oral-health-related quality of life.

Therefore, we investigated the herb-drug interaction between GGT and AAP by population pharmacokinetics (PKs) modeling and simulation studies. To quantify PK parameters and identify drug interactions, an open label, three-treatment, three-period, one-sequence (AAP alone, GGT alone, and AAP and GGT in combination) clinical trial involving 12 male healthy volunteers was conducted. Ephedrine (EPD), the only GGT component detected, was identified using a one-compartment model. The PKs of AAP were described well by a one-compartment model and exhibited two-phase absorption (rapid followed by slow) and first-order elimination. The model showed that EPD significantly influenced the PKs of AAP. The simulation results showed that at an AAP dose of 1000 mg × 4 times daily, the area under the concentration versus time curve of AAP increased by 16.
