    Our results showed that spore concentrations were higher in Northern and Central Europe than in South Europe and SW Asia. High and unusually high spore concentrations (> 90th and > 98th percentile, respectively) were partially associated with long distance transported spores at least 33% of Ganoderma spores recorded in Madeira during days with high concentrations originated from the Iberian Peninsula located >900 km away. Random forest models developed on local meteorological data performed better in sites where the contribution of long distance transported spores was lower. We found that high concentrations were recorded in sites with low host density (Leicester, Worcester), and low concentrations in Kastamonu with high host density. However, the impact of soil acidification on the redox-induced mobilization and speciation of P in soils under a wide range of EH values has not been extensively studied. Here, we investigated the mobilization and speciation of P in an acidified agricultural soil at two different pH values (e.g., highly acidic soil; pH = 5.6 and slightly acidic soil; pH = 6.1) compared to the un-acidified soil (control soil; pH = 7.3) under a wide range of EH condition (+459 to -281 mV). The impacts of EH/pH-dependent changes of Fe-Mn oxides, and dissolved organic (DOC) and inorganic (DIC) carbon on P mobilization and speciation were also investigated using geochemical and spectroscopic (X-ray absorption near edge structure) techniques. The concentrations of dissolved P under anoxic conditions increased up to 69.3% in the highly acidic soil compared with the control soil. The decrease of the Fe-P fraction, the decrease of Ferrihydrite-Pads speciation, and the strong linear correlation between the dissolved P and Fe2+ (R2 > 0.85) supports the finding that enhanced P mobilization under anoxic conditions may be attributed to Fe reduction in the highly acidic soil. The concentration of dissolved Fe and P remained low until pH dropped below 6.35 for P and 6.28 for Fe, while a liner increase was found in dissolved Mn accompanying a general trend of pH decrease. This result suggests that the dissolution of reducible Mn under acidic soil conditions was an important factor for enhancing mobilization of dissolved P under anoxic conditions. This trend was due to the low amount of Mn, indirectly speeding up Fe reduction. These results can help to develop management practices to effectively mitigate P export and protect water resources from diffuse P pollution.Effluent produced during the electroplating process can contain high concentrations of heavy metals that can enter the environment and induce toxicity to aquatic organisms. Relatively high concentrations of zinc (Zn) and mercury (Hg) have been detected in treated electroplating industrial effluent (TEPIE), though the cytotoxic potential of these compounds has not been well assessed in fish gills. A novel cell line, Danio rerio gill (DrG), were exposed to TEPIE and concentrations of Zn, Hg, and Zn + Hg previously measured in treated effluent to evaluate the use of the DrG cell line following exposure to environmental pollutants. Several cytotoxic assays were employed to assess the effect of TEPIE, Zn, and Hg on this cell line. The percent cell viability was significantly reduced in a concentration-dependent manner following exposure to TEPIE, Zn, Hg, and Zn + Hg (p less then 0.05) for 24 h, with additional morphological changes observed in exposure treatments relative to controls. Additionally, there was a significant induction of DNA damage detected in all exposure treatments determined through comet assay tail length. An increase in intracellular ROS generation was also observed in cells exposed to TEPIE, Zn, Hg, and Zn + Hg, corresponding to dose-dependent increases in apoptosis. Our study confirmed that TEPIE and the metals present in it induced cytotoxicity in the DrG cell line, demonstrating its usefulness as a model to explore relationships between pollutants and fish gills.

    Adult attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is associated with impaired executive function (EF), depressive/anxiety symptoms, and poor quality of life (QoL). In this study, we aimed to investigate correlations among these variables and to build a simple or serial mediation model for exploring the mechanisms between adult ADHD and QoL.

    This was a cross-sectional study. The sample included 223 participants with ADHD and 54 healthy volunteers. Participants were required to complete the following scales ADHD Rating Scale (ADHD-RS), Brief Version of the World Health Organization Quality of Life Scale (WHOQOL-BREF), Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function-Adult Version (BRIEF-A), Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS) and Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS). Correlations among EF, depressive/anxiety symptoms and QoL were analyzed using Pearson correlation. The simple and serial mediation models were analyzed using PROCESS (version 3.3).

    The correlations between EF and QoL, depressive/anxiety symptoms and QoL, and depressive/anxiety symptoms and EF were statistically significant. In ADHD adults with comorbidities, the correlation coefficients were between -0.19 and -0.47, -0.20 and -0.62, 0.28 and 0.50, respectively. In simple mediation models, EF and depressive/anxiety symptoms were significant mediators respectively between ADHD and QoL, respectively. In a serial two-mediator model, ADHD could affect QoL indirectly via EF and then via depressive/anxiety symptoms significantly.
