Intraperitoneal bevacizumab at 7.5 mg/kg weekly is recommended for further study to verify its anti-tumor activity.Trial registration Clinical Trials NCT01852409.Two sporadic cases of eosinophilic solid and cystic renal cell carcinoma (ESC RCC), at our institution, are presented in this study to contribute to the growing literature on this novel renal neoplasm. The first patient was a 38-year-old female with two synchronous renal masses measuring 3.5 and 1.9 cm on preoperative imaging. The second patient was a 44-year-old female with an incidental renal mass measuring 4 cm. Both patients underwent uncomplicated radical nephrectomies. The 1.9 cm mass in the first patient was consistent with clear cell RCC. The dominant mass in the first patient and the tumor in the second patient had microscopic and macroscopic findings in keeping with ESC RCC including a tan appearance, abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm, and CK20+ and CK7- staining. Both patients had an uncomplicated course following surgery with no evidence of local recurrence or distant metastatic disease for 1 and 2 years for the first and second patient accordingly. These cases contribute to a growing body of literature regarding ESC RCC including, to our knowledge, the first reported case of synchronous ESC RCC and clear cell RCC. Further research about this novel renal neoplasm is needed.Emergency service personnel who respond to terrorist attacks may experience persistent stress following the event. This occupational stress must be examined in order to develop occupation-specific response preparation and follow-up measures. An explorative pilot study examined the occupational stress-related effects of the 2016 terrorist attack on Breitscheidplatz in Berlin on emergency service personnel. The present study examines whether the results of the pilot study can be replicated and whether the effects changed after 2 years. The participants were 60 emergency personnel (including 11 police officers and 24 firefighters) who were deployed to the attack, and a control group of 60 personnel (including 37 police officers and 21 firefighters) who were not deployed. Data on stress, quality of life, and current mental state were gathered 3 to 4 months after the attack and 18 to 21 months after the first survey. The data showed that police officers who responded to the attack had significantly higher levels of aggression and hostility at both time points, and firefighters had significantly lower levels of environmental quality of life at both time points. Quality of life in terms of physical health for firefighters could not be replicated. Due to the different types of stress experienced by emergency service personnel, a differentiated approach is necessary. More specific preparation and follow-up measures are necessary to counteract persistent stress. Further research in this area could lead to specific predeployment and postdeployment training measures.We used data (N = 928) from ORANJ BOWL, a six-wave panel of adults (aged 50-74 at baseline) to address the association between personality and successful aging at two points in time, 8 years apart. Regressions examined the associations between Wave 2 neuroticism, extraversion, openness, agreeableness, and conscientiousness and Wave 3 subjective success, functional ability, pain, and chronic conditions. Models tested personality traits independently and then simultaneously, with interactions. Confirmatory analyses used Waves 5/6 data. All traits but openness were individually associated with successful aging at both time points. When testing traits simultaneously, only neuroticism and extraversion were consistently associated with subjective success, with an interaction at Waves 2/3. Neuroticism (Waves 2/3) and conscientiousness (Waves 5/6) were associated with functional ability. Neuroticism was associated with pain (Waves 2/3). Personality was not associated with chronic conditions. These analyses set up future work examining relationships between change in personality and change in successful aging.The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic response utilizes nasopharyngeal swabbing as a prolific testing method for presence of viral RNA. The depth of the swab to the nasopharynx coupled with breakpoints along the shaft leads to a risk for foreign body retention. Here, we present a case of a nasopharyngeal swab that became a retained foreign body during routine swabbing to test for the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Bedside flexible fiberoptic endoscopy was performed and did not reveal a foreign body in the nasopharynx or larynx. Subsequent computed tomography (CT) scan demonstrated the radiopaque retained foreign body at the distal gastroesophageal junction. The patient remained asymptomatic and did not have any upper airway or gastrointestinal symptoms. This unique case demonstrates a potential risk associated with SARS-CoV-2 nasopharyngeal swab testing and highlights management strategies that serve the patient while adequately protecting health care providers. Several studies have emphasized the relation between the high conductivity of WIS electrolytes and their nanoscale structure. Combining force measurements with a surface forces apparatus and atomic force microscopy, this study describes the nanoheterogeneity of LiTFSI solutions as a function of concentration and distance from a negatively charged (mica) surface. We report various nanostructures coexisting in the WIS electrolyte, whose size increases with concentration and is influenced by the proximity of the mica surface. Two key concentration thresholds are identified, beyond which a transition of behavior is observed. The careful scrutinization on the concentration-dependent nanostructures lays groundwork for designing novel electrolytes in future energy storage devices.
