Beckmannia syzigachne (Steud.) Fernald has become a dominant weed that has evolved resistance to major herbicides used in the wheat fields of rice-wheat double cropping areas of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, China. Seed dispersal occurs over long distances via irrigation water. As mechanical harvesting services popularize, there is concern that combine harvesters could play an increasing role in B. syzigachne seed dispersal.
Random sampling of 30 combine harvesters at wheat harvest determined that an average of 8000 B. syzigachne seeds remain in the combine after wheat harvesting, predominantly on the metal plate. These seeds could potentially be transported into adjacent fields. A double exponential model predicted that seeds remaining on the metal plate could be dispersed over 7885 m
into the next field. Within a field, the number of fallen seeds and their dispersal distance were positively correlated to panicle density. Combines spread seeds away from the source potentially creat.
The coagulation factors (F)V and VIII are homologous proteins that support hemostasis through their regulation of FX activity. Hemophilia A (HA) patients have reduced FVIII activity and a prolonged bleeding time that is corrected through the administration of exogenous FVIII. Around one-third of severe HA patients develop FVIII neutralizing antibodies, known as “inhibitors,” which neutralize FVIII activity and preclude them from further FVIII therapy.
We hypothesized that, based on the degree of homology between FV and FVIII (~40%), FVIII-neutralizing antibodies could cross react with FV. To test this hypothesis, a panel of recombinant, patient-derived, FVIII-neutralizing antibodies were screened for cross-reactivity against FV.
Factor V and FVIII activity was measured using one-stage clotting assays; structural analysis was carried out using a structural approach.
We detected FV neutralizing activity with the anti-FVIII A2 domain antibody NB11B2. Because this antibody was derived from an HA inhibitor patient, FV-neutralizing activity was then evaluated in a number of HA inhibitor patient plasma samples; nine alloimmune samples had FV-neutralizing activity whereas no FV neutralizing activity was found in the two autoimmune samples available. We next examined the degree of surface homology between FV and FVIII and found that structural similarity could explain the cross reactivity of the anti-A2 antibody and likely accounts for the cross reactivity we observed in patient samples.
Although this novel observation is of interest, further work will be needed to determine whether FV neutralization in HA patient samples contributes to their bleeding diathesis.

The study population consisted of 101 mothers staying for 14 days at two postpartum care centers in Busan, Republic of Korea. Data were collected from February to March 2018 using a self-administered questionnaire that covered postpartum depression, mother-infant attachment, and included a contact timesheet. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including means and standard deviations, Kruskal-Wallis tests, and multiple linear regression with bootstrapping estimation. The mean daily contact time was 5.31 ± 1.80 h. The mean postpartum depression decreased from 8.76 ± 7.10 points at admission to 5.16 ± 3.35 points at discharge. By increasing daily kangaroo mother care time by 1 h, postpartum depression was decreased by 4.02 points. However, changes in mother-infant attachment were not related to contact time. Kangaroo mother care was effective in decreasing postpartum depression among the mothers at the postpartum care centers. Nurses working at the care centers should encourage mothers to participate in kangaroo mother care programs. Further studies considering various contacts, such as baby massage or bathing, are recommended.
Dissemination of generic drug (GD) use could provide significant savings on drug expenditures and contribute to the long-term sustainability of healthcare. NVP-AUY922 clinical trial We aimed to exhibit the nationwide trend of GD use in primary care and investigate potentially relevant drug and patient factors.
Prescriptions written by primary care physicians in Turkey between 2013 and 2016 were analysed using the National Prescribing Information System. We determined the ratio of GD prescriptions with all prescriptions in terms of quantity and cost. In addition, we analysed the use of GD in terms of demographic characteristics of the patients, the most frequently prescribed preparations and frequent indications.
In the 4-year period, we identified 518,335,821 prescriptions, those with at least one GD constituted 54.0% (n=786,972,813) with a total cost-share of 36.9%-37.8%. GD use was the highest in 2016 (54.4%) and lowest in 2014 (53.6%). GD prescribing was higher in women than men every year (P<.001 for each), with the highey to be prescribed for acute conditions, particularly infectious diseases.
The forced oscillation technique (FOT) provides detailed information about the mechanics of the respiratory system, while requiring minimal co-operation by the patient. FOT may be abnormal in subjects with normal spirometry and appears to be more closely related to airway symptoms. It is, therefore, attractive in epidemiological studies, where a large number of different examinations are made in each subjects in a short period of time. Current technical standards recommend the mean of three consecutive measurements to be used, but there is limited information regarding within-session variability of FOT measurements.
The purpose of this study was to examine the within-session variability in FOT measurements in a large, population-based sample.
We performed three consecutive FOT measurements in 700 subjects using the impulse oscillometry system. The first measurement was compared to the mean of three measurements for resistance at 5 and 20Hz (R5 and R20, respectively), R5-R20, reactance at 5Hz (X5) and resonant frequency (f
).
