This study investigates the role of energy consumption in environmental degradation and checks the validity of the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) and pollution haven hypothesis (PHH) for the South Asian economies. The model is also controlled for population growth. The dynamic panel data model is estimated through Fully Modified Ordinary Least Square (FMOLS) rigorously. The results reject the possibility of the existence of EKC but ensure the prevalence of PHH. The study suggests that the South Asian countries should focus on attracting clean foreign investment, whereas the renewable energy production is critical for climate change mitigation. The study also stresses the financial institutions’ active role in providing easy loans for promoting research and development in environmentally friendly production practices.Waste rocks (WRs) from a lignite-producing coalfield and fly ash (FA) produced from the same lignite have been investigated in this study with a primary objective to determine the potential for co-disposal of WRs and FA to reduce the environmental contamination. Mixing WRs with FA and covering WRs with FA have been investigated. Particle size effect caused ≤2 mm particles to produce low pH (~2) and metal-laden leachates, indicating higher sulphide minerals’ reactivity compared to larger particles (≤10 mm, pH ~ 4). Co-disposal of FA as mixture showed an instantaneous effect, resulting in higher pH (~3-6) and better leachate quality. However, acidity produced by secondary mineralisation caused stabilisation of pH at around 4.5-5. In contrast, the pH of the leachates from the cover method gradually increased from strongly acidic (pH ~ 2) to mildly acidic (pH ~ 4-5) and circumneutral (pH ~ 7) along with a decrease in EC and elemental leaching. Gradually increasing pH can be attributed to the cover effect, which reduces the oxygen diffusion, thus sulphide oxidation. FA cover achieved the pH necessary for secondary mineralisation during the leaching experiment. The co-disposal of FA as cover and/or mixture possesses the potential for neutralisation and/or slowing down AMD and improving leachate quality.The current water shortage in China is critical. Moreover, the water shortage has become the main bottleneck hindering sustainable economic growth. Against the background of China’s dual control target of total water use and intensity, we choose the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) region as a research object, which encompasses Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui. Based on the perspective of water-energy-food nexus, we employ the generalized Divisia index method to decompose the change of water use into eight factors, regional economic scale effect, regional energy use scale effect, regional food production effect, regional water technology effect, regional energy technology effect, regional water-energy nexus effect, regional food-energy nexus effect, and regional water technology for food production effect, and analyze the contribution of each driver to identify the key drivers of total water use control. The results showed that the top four influencing factors are GDP, water intensity, energy consumption, and water-energy nexus in the YRD region. Regional economic scale is the first driving factor for increasing water use in the YRD region except for Zhejiang. Water intensity is the primary driving force of water-saving in Zhejiang. Energy consumption is the third driver of increasing water use in Jiangsu and Anhui. The effect of water-energy nexus is the third driving factor that affects the change of water use in Shanghai and Zhejiang. The authorities in the YRD region should vigorously develop water and energy utilization technologies to increase the water intensity and decrease energy consumption. The energy sector should decrease the water use to decrease the water-energy nexus which is also the main driving factor affecting the change of water use.
PIM kinase is called proto-oncogene, but there are less research on PIM family in colon cancer. This study was designed to explore the prognosis of PIM3 in colon cancer.
In this study, we downloaded RNA-seq and clinical information of colon cancer from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. Kaplan-Meier method was used for analyzing the impact of PIM3 on the survival of patients with colon cancer. Single-factor and multi-factor cox regression analysis were used for verifying the prognostic value of PIM3. Spearman correlation analysis was used for screening PIM3 related genes. Functional enrichment analysis was used for analyzing the biological functions and pathways in which PIM3 related genes may be involved. STRING online tools were used for building a co-expression network. Cytoscape was used for co-expression network visualization.
Compared with the low expression group, the patients in the PIM3 high expression group lived longer time. Single-factor and multi-factor cox regression analysis indicated that PIM3 was an independent prognostic factor for colon cancer. Sixty-two PIM3 related genes were screened, and GO and KEGG enrichment analyses suggested that PIM3 related genes might be involved in the MAPK and WNT pathways. The co-expression network showed a strong correlation between PIM3 and MLKL, MYL5, PPP3R1 and other genes.

We investigate the effectiveness of hemodynamic normalization upon withdrawal of life-sustaining therapy (WLST) in a large-animal controlled DCD model, with the hypothesis that reduction in cardiac work delays the onset of IMC.
A large-animal study was conducted comprising of a control group ([Formula see text]) receiving no therapy upon WLST, and a test group ([Formula see text]) subjected to a protocol for fully automated computer-controlled hemodynamic drug administration. Onset of IMC within 1h following circulatory death defined the primary end-point. Cardiac work estimates based on pressure-volume loop concepts were developed and used to provide insight into the effectiveness of the proposed computer-controlled therapy.
