    The term “sagittal cleft vertebra” (SCV) denotes a rare embryologically derived longitudinal defect within the vertebral body, which is clinically and radiologically challenging to diagnose in isolation. This defect results in two hemivertebrae, which ossify discordantly, ultimately leading to a sagittal cleft through the vertebral body. Often presenting with low back pain or concomitant with an associated syndromic illness, SCV is often found incidentally and can mimic vertebral compression fractures radiographically. Treatment of SCV has largely been conservative and symptomatic. With only 109 reported cases in the current literature, we present a unique case of multiple SCV throughout the thoracolumbar region in an adolescent patient. We performed a review of the literature to identify published cases of SCV to date. We searched PUBMED using the terms “sagittal cleft vertebrae”, “butterfly vertebrae”, and “anterior rachischisis”. Abstracts were screened for reports specifically involving original cases of SCV. Given the well-established association with syndromic illnesses, finding an SCV warrants further investigation for other abnormalities of the musculoskeletal, cardiac, and genitourinary systems. Complex management strategies are rare unless the SCV is associated with an aberrant syndrome, disc herniation or severe musculoskeletal abnormality, or symptomatic disc herniation requiring surgical management. Further studies should focus on uncovering the genetic markers leading to the cleft vertebral bodies, with a focus on early screening and monitoring of patients who could be predisposed to the condition.Purpose The aim of our study was to determine guide parameters for clinicians by morphometric assessment of important landmarks on cranium intended for Vidian nerve surgery. Methods For the study, 23 half-skull bases, 40 skull bases and 40 skulls were obtained from the Department of Anatomy, Ege University Medicine Faculty. The vertical distances were measured using a digital caliper to the nearest 0.01 mm. Results The anterior opening of the Vidian canal (pterygoid canal) was observed as oval shaped on 57 specimens (31.1%), funnel shaped on 58 specimens (31.7%), round shaped on 64 specimens (35%) and septated on 4 specimens (2.2%). Vidian canal was embedded into the body of sphenoid on 55 specimens (52.4%) (embedded type) and protruded to sphenoidal sinus on 50 specimens (47.6%) (protruded type). 21 specimens of 50 were partial and 29 specimens were total. There were dehiscences on 21 specimens of 50 protruded type on the base of sphenoidal sinus (20%). Anterior opening of the Vidian canal was assessed according to medial lamina of pterygoid process. It was located medially in 169 of the specimens (92.3%) and laterally in 14 specimens (7.7%). Conclusion Vidian canal and Vidian nerve are deeply located structures on skull. Vidian canal and surrounding structures are important landmarks for microsurgery and endoscopic approaches to Vidian nerve. We consider that knowledge of anatomical features of Vidian canal and preoperative imaging by CT (computed tomography) will be supportive when choosing and planning a safe surgical approach.Background Complex anal fistula in Crohn’s disease (CD) poses a challenging problem. We sought to evaluate long-term surgical healing of complex anal fistula in CD through the two robust repair options-ligation of the intersphincteric fistula tract (LIFT) and advancement flap (AF). Methods A single-center retrospective study was conducted evaluating long-term healing rates in patients with CD with complex anal fistula undergoing LIFT or AF in 2008-2018. selleck products Fistula healing was defined as closure of external wounds, cessation of drainage and absence of pain. Chamfer and rounded shoulder preparations were done with stainless steel master models with a width of 0.6 mm and 1.0 mm and a total convergence angle of 6°. The provisional crowns were obtained using computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) material in the mandibular left first molar. From the obtained molar tooth, a silicon mold was used to obtain the provisional crowns from the CAD/CAM PMMA, bis-acrylic resin, and self-curing composite materials. The lowest fracture strength was found in the bis-acrylic resin group made using the rounded shoulder preparation with a width of 0.6 mm (699 N). The highest fracture strength was found in the CAD/CAM PMMA group made using the rounded shoulder preparation with a width of 1 mm (1339 N). The fracture strength is higher for CAD/CAM PMMA than the other provisional crown materials; thus, it is recommended that this material be used in provisional crown restorations due to its other advantages.Anti-rods and rings (anti-RR) antibody induction is related to the combination of interferon and ribavirin in the treatment of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. If the main factor leading to this autoimmune reaction is the combination of these drugs, is not well known, but in vitro studies shows that ribavirin alone can induce rods and rings structures. New direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) permit HCV treatment without needing interferon but may be associated with ribavirin in the most difficult-to-treat patients. The aim of this study is to evaluate the occurrence of anti-RR in patients with chronic HCV infection, before and after 12 weeks of treatment with DAAs, with and without ribavirin. From Jun 2016 to Oct 2017, 52 HCV-infected patients were screened for anti-RR before and after DAA therapy, including sofosbuvir, daclatasvir, simeprevir, and ribavirin. Serum samples were analyzed using indirect immunofluorescence. The anti-RR was present in 11 (21%) of the 52 patients (51.9% male and mean age of 59.1 years) before using DAAs.
