The significantly “higher” tabletability of RIV-MAL Co among the three molecular solids was the result of its higher plasticity and BS. Flat-layered topology slip across the (0 0 1) plane, the higher degree of intermolecular interactions, and the larger separation between adjacent crystallographic layers contributed to improved mechanical behavior of RIV-MAL Co. Interestingly, a particle level deformation parameter H/E (i.e., ratio of mechanical hardness H to elastic modulus E) was found to inversely correlate with a bulk level deformation parameter σ0 (i.e., tensile strength at zero porosity). The present study highlighted the role of cocrystal crystallographic properties in improving the tabletability of materials.Deproteinized bovine bone mineral (DBBM) bone grafts are commonly utilized for guided bone regeneration (GBR) techniques in regenerative dentistry. It has been hypothesized that different forms (blocks versus particulates) might demonstrate the varying properties of cell behavior during the regenerative process. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate DBBM granules and blocks for their effects on osteoblasts and macrophages (Mφs). DBBM granules and blocks were filled to the same size (φ6.4 mm in diameter × 2.0 mm in height) in cell culture wells and assessed for cell viability and cell differentiation of human osteoblast-like Saos-2 cells, and Mφs derived from human monocyte THP-1 cells. The two groups were first characterized by micro-CT analysis, which demonstrated that DBBM granules had a two-fold greater material volume and a four-fold larger surface area than the blocks. learn more DBBM blocks showed superior viability for both osteoblasts and Mφs. Osteoblast experiments were then utilized to better characterize the influence of DBBM shapes/forms on osteoblast differentiation. Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) staining on the undecalcified frozen sections was observed throughout the DBBM granule surface, yet this staining was only observed on the upper portion of the DBBM blocks. Furthermore, DBBM blocks showed M1-Mφ polarization trends with higher IL-1 and IL-6 mRNA expression in Mφs, while the conditioned media from Mφs cultured on DBBM granules promoted osteoblast differentiation with higher mRNA levels of Runx 2, ALP and osteocalcin. In conclusion, the DBBM granules showed more regenerative effects, lower M1 marker expression, and higher osteoblast differentiation potential when compared with the blocks, which might be related to the larger material volume, higher surface area and greater ability for the cells to penetrate through the scaffold.Ferula pisidica is a novel endemic species found in the vicinity of Karaman province of inner Mediterranean Region of Turkey. F. pisidica is morphologically distinct from F. haussknechtii and F. brevipedicellata by habit, sheaths, terminal leaf lobes, and mericarp size as well as by chemotaxonomic differences. The new species is described by morphological, carpological, ecological and phytochemical characteristics. Its relationships with the other related species and proposed conservation status will be reviewed.Metal hydrides are regarded as promising hydrogen-supplying fuel for energetic materials while CL-20 (Hexanitrohexaazaisowurtzitane) and FOX-7 (1,1-Diamino-2,2-dinitroethylene) are typical principal components commonly used in energetic materials. Hence, it is interesting to explore the interactions between them for development of new energetic systems. In this paper, the adsorption and decomposition of CL-20 or FOX-7 molecules on the MgH2 (110) crystal surface were investigated by employing the First-Principles. In total, 18 adsorption configurations for CL-20/MgH2 (110) and 12 adsorption configurations for FOX-7/MgH2 (110) were considered. The geometric parameters for the configurations, adsorption energies, charge transfer, density of states, and decomposition mechanism were obtained and analyzed. In most of the configurations, chemical adsorption will occur. Moreover, the orientation of the nitro-group in CL-20 or FOX-7 with regard to the MgH2 (110) surface plays an important role on whether and how the energetic molecule decomposes. The adsorption and decomposition of CL-20 or FOX-7 on MgH2 could be attributed to the strong charge transfer between Mg atoms in the first layer of MgH2 (110) surface and oxygen as well as nitrogen atoms in the nitro-group of CL-20 or FOX-7 molecules.Vitamin D insufficiency has been associated with increased incidence and severity of cerebrovascular disorders. We analyzed the impact of impaired vitamin D signaling on the anatomical and functional aspects of cerebrovascular adaptation to unilateral carotid artery occlusion (CAO), a common consequence of atherosclerosis and cause of ischemic stroke. Cerebrocortical blood flow (CoBF) showed a significantly increased drop and delayed recovery after CAO in mice carrying a functionally inactive vitamin D receptor (VDR) with the most sustained perfusion deficit in the temporal cortex. To identify the cause(s) for this altered adaptation, the extent of compensatory blood flow increase in the contralateral carotid artery and the morphology of pial collaterals between the anterior and middle cerebral arteries were determined. Whereas VDR deficiency had no significant influence on the contralateral carotid arterial blood flow increase, it was associated with decreased number and increased tortuosity of pial anastomoses resulting in unfavorable changes of the intracranial collateral circulation. These results indicate that VDR deficiency compromises the cerebrovascular adaptation to CAO with the most sustained consequences in the temporal cortex. The dysregulation can be attributed to the altered development and function of pial collateral circulation whereas extracranial vessels may not be impaired.Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) are effective ways to degrade refractory organic contaminants, relying on the generation of inorganic radicals (e.g., •OH and SO4•-). Herein, a novel AOP with organic radicals (R-O•) was reported to degrade contaminants. Lanthanum cobaltite perovskite (LaCoO3) was used to activate peracetic acid (PAA) for organic radical generation to degrade sulfamethoxazole (SMX). The results show that LaCoO3 exhibited an excellent performance on PAA activation and SMX degradation at neutral pH, with low cobalt leaching. Meanwhile, LaCoO3 also showed an excellent reusability during PAA activation. In-depth investigation confirmed CH3C(O)O• and CH3C(O)OO• as the key reactive species for SMX degradation in LaCoO3/PAA system. The presence of Cl- (1-100 mM) slightly inhibited the degradation of SMX in the LaCoO3/PAA system, whereas the addition of HCO3- (0.1-1 mM) and humic aid (1-10 mg/L) could significantly inhibit SMX degradation. This work highlights the generation of organic radicals via the heterogeneous activation of PAA and thus provides a promising way to destruct contaminants in wastewater treatment.
