Conflicting results have been published on the impact of contact precautions (CPs) on reduction of transmission of multi-drug-resistant micro-organisms (MDROs) in the endemic setting. Ambiguous definitions coupled with low adherence partly explain these differences.

We prospectively monitored the level of adherence to CPs and aimed to relate it to in-hospital transmission of MDROs.

Between January 2016 and March 2018, all patients under CPs underwent continuous monitoring of adherence to CPs by routine on-site visits on days 0, 3 and 7 after initiating CPs using a standardized checklist. The protocol included 10 interventions that were routinely checked such as CP sign at the door as well as wearing of gowns and gloves upon entry to the patient room. Patients requiring CPs were defined as colonized or infected with MDROs (meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), non-Escherichia coli extended-spectrum beta lactamase (ESBL) Enterobacterales, vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) and carbapenem-mented.As the executor of pyroptosis known to date, gasdermins (GSDMs), consists of GSDMA, GSDMB, GSDMC, GSDMD, GSDME and pejvakin, might play critical roles in anti-bacterial infection as well as inflammatory diseases. However, zebrafish only harbors a pair of Gsdme (Gsdmea/b), and their activation mechanisms remain largely unknown. Herein, we investigate the activation mechanism of Gsdmea/b cleaved by inflammatory and apoptotic caspases in zebrafish, and found that Gsdmea/b are equally cleaved by Caspase 19b, a sister of Caspy2, but not Caspy. Moreover, the zebrafish apoptotic effector caspases, including Caspase 3a/b and Caspase 7, also can cleave Gsdmea/b at the same sites as inflammatory caspases recognized. Importantly, our results reveal that Caspase 8a/b can cleave Gsdmeb, but only Caspase 8a can cleave Gsdmea. Taken together, these findings suggest that zebrafish Gsdmea/b can concurrently function as GSDMD and GSDME in mammals, which will contribute to better understanding the mechanism of pyroptosis activation in teleost, as well as provide a clue for drug screening model against inflammatory diseases.DNA-binding protein Ikaros is a major determinant of haematopoietic lineage, especially in the development, differentiation and proliferation of lymphocytes. In the present study, a Ikaros homologue (designed as CgIkaros-like) was identified and characterized as a vital determinant in the proliferation of haemocytes during haematopoiesis of Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas. The complete coding sequence of CgIkaros-like was of 1329 bp encoding a predicted polypeptide of 442 amino acids with four ZnF regions, locating at the C-terminus and N-terminus respectively. The highest expression level of CgIkaros-like mRNA was found in gills, followed by haemocytes and gonad. The mRNA transcripts of CgIkaros-like could be detected in all the haemocytes with higher abundance in semi-granulocytes and agranulocytes. CgIkaros-like protein was localized in both of cytoplasm and nucleus with higher abundance in nucleus of oyster haemocytes. The mRNA and protein expression levels of agranulocyte marker CgCD9, granulocyte marker CgAATase, cell cycle related gene CgCDK2, Notch receptor CgNotch and Notch target gene CgHes1 all increased significantly (p less then 0.05) after CgIkaros-like was interfered by siRNAs, which were about 27.33-, 2.63-, 24.34-, 4.45- and 6.08-fold of that in the siRNA-NC control group, respectively. While the transcripts of CgGATA3 and CgRunx did not change significantly after CgIkaros-like was interfered. These results demonstrated that CgIkaros-like functioned as a transcription factor combined with Notch pathway to mediate CgCDK2 and regulate the proliferation of oyster haemocytes.

The aim of this investigation was to evaluate the clinical and histological differences in wound healing between beveled and perpendicular vertical releasing incisions in dogs.

Four male mongrel dogs were used in this investigation. In each quadrant, a vertical releasing incision was made on either the mesial or the distal aspect of the cuspid teeth of each animal all on the same day. The sites were randomly selected to either receive a beveled incision or a perpendicular incision. see more A sulcular muco-periosteal flap was raised, reapproximated, and then sutured using 3-0 Vicryl. The animals were evaluated daily for the first week, and then at different time intervals during this investigation. One animal was killed at each time interval of 9, 14, 21, and 28days after surgery. One animal was killed at each time interval, and a bone block consisting of the cuspid teeth and their surrounding bone and soft tissues was harvested, formalin fixed, and paraffin embedded. Samples were sectioned serially and stained wid histologic healing of beveled or perpendicular releasing incisions are similar 28days after surgery.

Based on these findings, it appears that clinical and histologic healing of beveled or perpendicular releasing incisions are similar 28 days after surgery.Since seafood is a significant source of nutrients with known health benefits, its consumption is promoted as a healthy food choice. However, seafood can also contain potentially hazardous environmental pollutants. In the context of the ECsafeSEAFOOD FP7 project, FishChoice (www.fishchoice.eu) was developed as a communication tool to help to the consumers to take the most appropriate decisions on their seafood consumption habits. FishChoice relies on scientific information that allows calculating, on an individual basis, intakes of nutrients and pollutants derived from seafood consumption. In the framework of the EU-H2020 funded SEAFOODTOMORROW project, an optimized version of the online tool has been released. FishChoice is available in 25 EU languages with a customized list of seafood species per EU country, considering specific (national) consumption habits. The list of nutrients has been extended according to the latest EFSA recommendations, while pollutants data incorporate results from recent studies. The sustainability of seafood consumption has been also implemented, providing recommendations to help preserve the marine environment. Finally, FishChoice is suitable not only for consumers, but also health professionals, schools and academia, as well as the industrial sector and public health providers.
