Atipamezole significantly suppressed SWDs dose-dependently, without affecting the relative power values of EEG frequency spectrum. The stereotypic activity was significantly lower in both naive Wistar rats and GAERSs receiving the highest dose (31μg) of atipamezole compared to GAERSs receiving aCSF. In GAERSs, CaMKII levels were found to be higher in the thalamus after the acute and chronic application of SWD-suppressing doses of atipamezole (12 and 31 μg) compared to aCSF.

AR antagonism in suppressing SWDs. Atipamezole’s SWD-suppressive actions may be through CaMKII-mediated second messenger systems in the thalamus.

To investigate the etiology and longitudinal clinical, neuropsychological, psychosocial, and surgical outcome profile of patients with medication refractory epilepsy and temporal encephaloceles with a view to highlight diagnostic clues and management strategies.

The comprehensive epilepsy program databases at two surgical epilepsy centers from January 2000 to October 2018 were reviewed for this observational study, to identify patients with encephaloceles causing temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) and treated with surgical resection. Their clinical, radiological, neuropsychological, psychiatric, and surgical data were obtained. Body mass index (BMI) data were also reviewed due to possible correlation between idiopathic intracranial hypertension and encephaloceles.

Thirteen patients (eight female) were identified; only three were recognized on initial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) report. Temporal encephaloceles were identified on the left in eight patients, on the right in three patients, and bilaterally ial outcome. Subtle encephaloceles should be actively searched for in patients with drug-resistant TLE because they significantly change surgical strategy and prognostication.

Genetic factors and a possible association with idiopathic intracranial hypertension (given female predominance and elevated BMI) may contribute to the causation of temporal lobe encephaloceles. It is notable that a targeted surgical approach in the management of patients with TLE associated with encephaloceles has an excellent long-term clinical and neuropsychological outcome. Subtle encephaloceles should be actively searched for in patients with drug-resistant TLE because they significantly change surgical strategy and prognostication.Endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) is an essential diagnostic tool for various types of pancreatic diseases such as pancreatic tumors and chronic pancreatitis; however, EUS imaging has low specificity for the diagnosis of pancreatic diseases. Artificial intelligence (AI) is a mathematical prediction technique that automates learning and recognizes patterns in data. This review describes the details and principles of AI and deep learning algorithms. The term AI does not have any definite definition; almost all AI systems fall under narrow AI, which can handle single or limited tasks. Deep learning is based on neural networks, which is a machine learning technique that is widely used in the medical field. Deep learning involves three phases data collection and annotation, building the deep learning architecture, and training and ability validation. For medical image diagnosis, image classification, object detection, and semantic segmentation are performed. In EUS, AI is used for detecting anatomical features, differential pancreatic tumors, and cysts. For this, conventional machine learning architectures are used, and deep learning architecture has been used in only two reports. Although the diagnostic abilities in these reports were about 85-95%, these were exploratory research and very few reports have included substantial evidence. AI is increasingly being used for medical image diagnosis due to its high performance and will soon become an essential technique for medical diagnosis.A mathematical aspect of the anharmonic downward distortion following (ADDF) path is discussed. The ADDF method is utilized as an automated reaction path search method, which can explore transition state geometries on a potential energy surface from a potential minimum. We show that the maximum number of the ADD stationary paths intersecting the potential minimum is 2f + 1  - 2, where f denotes the degree of freedom of the system. We also show that the bifurcation of the ADD stationary path is essential to detect all the transition states connected from a given minimum. The ADDF computation is demonstrated for a H2 O molecule in which pitchfork bifurcation is observed.

Glycine powder air polishing (GPAP) procedure has become popular. Aim of the analysis was to compare the clinical outcomes during supportive periodontal therapy (SPT) of subgingival application of GPAP with those using sole conventional mechanical debridement (SC).

Over a median SPT period of 5.3years (re-evaluation through last observation), the GPAP cohort (n=263) received supra- and subgingival biofilm removal with GPAP. Supragingival calculus was removed using curets and sonic scalers here. Patients in the SC cohort (n=264) were treated with sonic scalers, curets and rubber cup polishing only. Changes in, that is pocket probing depth (PPD) and furcation involvement were assessed retrospectively. A bootstrapping equivalence testing method in line with the principle of the two one-sided tests (TOST) procedure was used to compare clinical outcomes.

The GPAP procedure was statistically equivalent to SC regarding the number of sites with stable PPDs (83.3%; IQR 68.8%, 91.0% vs. 84.0%; IQR 77.8%, 90.0%). PF-02341066 However, in the GPAP cohort, a trend towards deterioration in furcation status (no equivalence) was noted.

In periodontal maintenance, the use of GPAP instead of mechanical plaque removal does not improve the clinical outcome. It seems to be contraindicated to treat furcation defects with GPAP only.
